FRANCE 1 ENGLAND 0
France beat England 1-0 in Paris tonight as David Beckham earned his 100th cap. A Frank Ribery penalty conceded when David James brought down Anelka on 32 minutes was the only goal of the game in a very poor game of football. England created nothing all night showing absolutely no cutting edge what-so-ever.

WINNING START
A steady if unspectacular start to Fabio Capello’s reign as England manager as he watched his side win 2-1 against Switzerland at Wembley.
England started nervously and squandered possession. Switzerland produced some lively moments in the first half but it was England that led at the break after Jermaine Jenas turned home a Joe Cole cross. The Swiss pulled level on 58 but substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips restored the lead shortly after.
A much better second half performance from England but not a great game overall.

ENGLAND CRASH OUT
England’s shambolic qualification campaign is over after they produced a hapless display losing 3-2 to Croatia at Wembley. The game was as good as over after fifteen minutes as a howler from Scott Carson and calamity defending gifted Croatia a dream 2-0 start. England did manage to get back into the game with a Frank Lampard penalty and a well taken goal from Peter Crouch but then threw it away again when some more poor defending allowed Croatia to seal the win.
Not good enough through-out the twelve games but tonight was a new low!

UNDER 21's ROLL ON
England's Under 21's produced another excellent display to draw 1-1 in Portugal tonight. The point means Stuart Pearce's side remain six points clear at the top of group 3 with two games remaining against the Republic of Ireland and Portugal at home.
Adam Johnson grabbed a second-half equaliser after Vieirinha scored an early penalty to give Portugal the lead.
The ten group winners and four best runners-up advance to the play-offs, where seven matches will decide which teams join Sweden in the eight-team finals. If teams are level on points, they are split by head to head record then overall record in the group.

AUSTRIA 0 ENGLAND 1
With England’s European Championship qualification hope’s hanging in the balance Steve McClaren’s side won comfortably on a freezing night in Vienna. Michael Owen went off injured on 34 minutes with a thigh strain and will defiantly be out of the game against Croatia on Wednesday.
England dominated the first-half against a shockingly poor Austrian side and went close through Owen and Joe Cole before Peter Crouch scored the opener on 44 minutes leaping unmarked to head home a David Beckham corner.
Crouch should have had a second early in the second-half but his close range header was well saved by substitute keeper Alex Manninger.
With all the changes made by both teams the game fizzled out into a non-event between two poor sides.

ENGLAND HANGING ON
England’s qualification is out of their hands after Russia came from behind to win 2-1 in Moscow. Wayne Rooney gave Steve McClaren’s side the lead on 29 minutes controlling a Michael Owen flick on his chest and smashing an unstoppable volley past Vladimir Gabulov. Steven Gerrard missed a glorious chance to make it 2-0 just after half time and England pushed further back and invited Russian pressure.
The pressure finally told on 69 minutes Rooney hauling down Zurianov to concede a penalty, and substitute Pavluchenko slotted home. Four minutes later Pavluchenko pounced to score from close range after Paul Robinson parried Alexei Berezutsky's shot.
England will now be watching Russia’s game in Israel closely next month and if they are to have any chance of qualification Israel need to get something from that game.

ENGLAND 3 ESTONIA 0
England strolled to a 3-0 over Estonia at Wembley to record their fifth successive 3-0 win in qualifiers. Wayne Rooney returned to the team and partnered Michael Owen up front. Shaun Wright-Phillips scored the opener firing through Mart Poom's legs in the 11th minute. Rooney scored his first competitive goal for England since Euro 2004 in the 32nd minute, with the help of a deflection off Raio Piiroja which diverted the ball into the net. Taavi Rahn scored a spectacular own goal a minute later heading a Joe Cole cross past Poom from the edge of the Estonia area.
England took their foot off the gas second half, Everton defender Joleon Lescott made his debut coming on for Rio Ferdinand at half-time.
